Waldfriedhof Prinzersdorf
Anja Fischer
On the hillside near the Mühlbach is the municipal cemetery of Prinzersdorf, which was built there in 1963 with a mortuary and gradually expanded to the north. Due to the growing demand for urn graves, the cemetery designed for burials reached its limits. North of the cemetery, intensive forestation has been going on for years with good prospects. On the one hand, this piece of forest serves as a screen from the surrounding single-family houses, on the other hand, the area offers a habitat for native wild animals. In 2019, this area was redesigned by Ernst Beneder and Anja Fischer as a forest and meadow burial site for urn graves with a choreographed path system and opportunities for prayer and commemoration. Natural and regional materials were used. The principle of "transience" as in burial is also preserved here in urn burials, so that the "eternal" stay in the natural cycle is secured. Instead of urn niches in reinforced concrete walls, the urn graves are laid out in the rest forest, and biodegradable urns are preferred.
