Pieter Breughel Ausstellung - Once in a lifetime - Kunsthistorisches Museum
Serenella Zoppolat
This exhibition took place in 2018 - 2019, marking the 450th anniversary of the death of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1525/30 – 1569).
The Bruegel exhibition in Vienna provided the setting for an extraordinary encounter: about half of all the extant works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder were on display. Around forty paintings, sixty drawings, and eighty prints were attributed to him.
This rich amount of masterpieces was a small miracle: many of these international loans were so old and fragile that they rarely traveled, and many of the works on display in the Bruegel exhibition had never before left their hometowns.
