Evangelical Church Mitterbach
Anja Fischer
The church was inaugurated in 1785 - at that time still as a house of prayer. It is located in the middle of the Lower Austrian Limestone Alps and is the oldest evangelical church in Lower Austria. In 1747, evangelical lumberjacks from the Cistercian monastery of Lilienfeld came to Maria Theresia to clear the impassable forests around the Ötscher in the middle of the Lower Austrian Limestone Alps and bring in the wood harvest.
Over the years, repair and renovation workhas become necessary . In 2015, the parish decided to carry out an extensive renovation of the interior with regional and ecological building materials in order to make the original prayer house style clearly recognizable again.
Gallery
The gallery, which was extended far forward in 1970, was dismantled and supplemented by two side galleries. Numerous examples show similar (a)symmetrical systems of "horseshoe" galleries in evangelical prayer houses and churches. The new layout of the galleries gives the organ its due status in the church interior again. The surfaces of the parapets are transparent. The names of the first confessors to the evangelical faith from 1782 are worked into the text fields.
