Energy supply Latschau/ Austria
Heike Schlauch
Technical innovation and ecological sustainability go together with the added value of the infrastructure building for the surrounding tourism region.
The Latschau heating plant of illwerke vkw AG is located at approx. 1,000 m altitude in the middle of the Montafon mountains in Austria. It is situated at a hiking car park above the Lünerseewerk with its mighty reservoir. It supplies sustainably generated heat and cold for the neighbouring 5* hotel and the surrounding neighbouring settlement.
The choice of materials and colours of the Latschau heating plant are generated out of the mighty backdrop of the Montafon mountains, so that the building blends into the surrounding landscape.
The elegant monotony of the mountains is reflected in the design of the heating plant. A solid concrete body structured by different surface textures and a single spot colour for all metal surfaces are picking up on the surrounding atmosphere and are carrying it forward. A committed ecology concept interweaves the building with its surroundings by making the building itself become a habitat for local botanical rarities.
